Although attracted by literature in his youth, an encounter with Rene Char and Pierre Boulez, as well as a painting by van  Gogh, motivate the young Belgian artist Guy Jaspar to dedicate his live to painting. Fascinated by the American movement "Color field", of which Rothko is a precursor, and the confrontation with oriental art  during several sojourns in Japan, durably influence his work.@

One of his essential preoccupations in recent years is the indigo colour. His works translate a constant research in the interpretation of deepest human emotions that he redefines in his representation of the cross. A  Belgian specialist in contemporary art recently wrote: "Jaspar does not hesitate to explore the edge of the abyss, to live his proper experience at the point of death without ever surrendering."

Guy Jaspar's art works-oil on wood and cardboard after manner of the ancient Flemish painters- are present in important private and public art collection in Europe and Japan.
