Herzog’s
creative process begins with extensive travel. Wherever she stops she
embarks on an intense exchange with not only the physical environment in
which she finds herself, but with the spirit of that environment. The
results are mysterious landscapes inhabited with hybrid symbols and
animal-like beings. Herzog is like a shaman: she observes a place,
broods on her observations, combines them with herself, her thoughts and
memories (perhaps of other places visited), and then recreates that
place in her paintings. Scheduled
to hold a solo exhibition at Gallery Saoh in 13-22 September. |
